Chad’s Story

I make no exaggeration when I say this but Help A Diabetic Child (HADC) saved my life when I was in high school.  In high school, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, but for a long time I went undiagnosed while trying to keep up with the daily grind of school, homework, and high school football.  I had no idea of the symptoms of type 1 diabetes and neither did anyone around me. I summed it up to I just wasn’t eating enough or something minor.  It wasn’t until I got blood work done that I realized I was in trouble.  I spent three days in the hospital trying to get my body back to normal, the doctors themselves said if I had waited just a short time longer to come to the hospital that I would be dead.  After I got out of the hospital, I spent a short time away from football before I was finally able to return where I started to learn how to get some control of my body regarding high and low blood sugar levels and how to treat them.  I discovered Help A Diabetic Child through our local YMCA where I happened to meet a few Mothers whose children had type 1 diabetes. They helped me get in touch with Tami at HADC.
